Plain / Twill (Chinos) / Satin Fabrics
Plain Cotton Chinos are made from a lightweight, durable cotton fabric with a soft finish. They are often used for making casual trousers and are known for their clean, polished appearance. Twill fabrics have a diagonal weave pattern, giving them a distinctive texture and strong durability. They’re commonly used for trousers, jackets, and shirts. Cotton Satin fabrics have a smooth, lustrous finish, created by weaving the cotton in a way that gives it a shiny surface. These are elegant fabrics typically used for evening wear, dresses, and blouses.
Dobby / Structure Fabrics
Dobby fabrics feature intricate patterns or textures created by weaving, such as geometric or floral designs. “Self-structured” refers to the fabric having a raised texture or pattern within the fabric itself, without the need for additional prints. These fabrics have a distinctive, tactile surface, often used in shirts, blouses, and other garments that require an elegant, textured finish.
Print Fabrics
Printed fabrics refer to textiles that feature patterns, designs, or images printed onto the surface. This can be done using various techniques such as screen printing, digital printing, or rotary printing. These fabrics can range from lightweight materials used in fashion to heavier types used for upholstery. Printed fabrics are versatile and can feature floral, geometric, or abstract patterns, often enhancing the aesthetic of garments or home décor items.
Blended Fabrics
These fabrics are made by blending natural and synthetic fibers to achieve a balance of comfort, durability, and luxury. Tencel (also known as Lyocell) is a sustainable fabric made from wood pulp and is soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking. Modal, a type of rayon, is also made from wood pulp and is known for its silky feel, breathability, and resistance to shrinking. Linen, made from the flax plant, is a lightweight, breathable fabric perfect for hot weather due to its cooling properties. Blends of these materials offer enhanced softness, fluidity, and drape in garments such as dresses, shirts, and casual wear.
Y/d. Fabrics
Y/D fabrics, short for “Yarn-Dyed” fabrics, are textiles where the yarns used to weave or knit the fabric are dyed before the actual weaving process. This technique allows for more intricate patterns, such as plaids, checks, stripes, or even more complex designs, because the colors are applied to individual yarns rather than to the entire fabric after it is made. Yarn-dyed fabrics are often more vibrant and colorfast compared to piece-dyed fabrics, which are dyed after the fabric is produced.
RFD Fabrics
RFD (Ready for Dyeing) fabrics are textiles that are pre-treated and prepared for dyeing or printing processes. These fabrics typically go through a series of processes to remove impurities, such as oils or finishes, making them ideal for vibrant and even color application. RFD fabrics are commonly used in the fashion and textile industries, where the ability to customize colors and patterns is important. Because they are in a neutral state, they allow for more flexibility in the dyeing process, ensuring that colors take evenly across the fabric.
Hi-Density Fabrics
Hi-density fabrics are textiles that are woven or knitted with a higher number of threads per square inch, resulting in a dense and tight structure. This density gives the fabric a more compact feel and enhances its durability, strength, and resistance to wear and tear. Hi-density fabrics are commonly used in applications where durability and longevity are important, such as in outdoor gear, upholstery, and industrial fabrics.
Corduroy Fabrics
Corduroy fabric is a distinct, ribbed textile made from cotton, polyester, or blends, known for its unique texture and durability. The fabric is woven with a pattern of vertical ridges, called “wales,” which vary in size from fine to wide, creating its signature appearance. Corduroy is typically thicker and more substantial than regular cotton fabrics, making it popular for colder weather clothing such as pants, jackets, skirts, and even upholstery.
Bi-Stretch (4-Way) Fabrics
Bi-Stretch (4-Way) fabrics are textiles designed to stretch both horizontally and vertically, offering enhanced comfort and flexibility. Unlike regular stretch fabrics, which typically only stretch in one direction, bi-stretch fabrics have the ability to stretch in multiple directions—both across the width and length of the fabric. This makes them ideal for applications where movement and comfort are essential, such as activewear, sportswear, and performance costumes.
Sustainable Performance Fabric
Sustainable fabrics are textiles that are produced with environmental, ethical, and social considerations in mind, aiming to reduce the negative impact of fashion and textile production on the planet. These fabrics are made from materials that are renewable, biodegradable, or recycled, and they prioritize low-impact production processes. The goal is to create fabrics that not only look good but are also kinder to the earth and the people involved in their creation.
Global (Overseas) Fabrics
Global (Overseas) fabrics refer to textiles that are sourced, manufactured, or processed outside of a particular country or region, often in countries with well-established textile industries. The production of these fabrics may involve importing raw materials, outsourcing manufacturing processes, or importing finished textiles for retail or wholesale markets. The global fabric industry has become increasingly interconnected, with fabrics being produced in one part of the world and used in another.
